The U. S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Inspector General on the Office of Consumer Affairs has received complaints that the Food and Drug Administration failed to properly report its warning labels to the FDA.
The complaint is part of a report the FDA recently issued that states the company did not report its warning labels to the FDA because the FDA was aware of the issue and was investigating it.
FDA spokeswoman Cindy Whitehead said the FDA is not aware of the fact that drug products, including Viagra, have been linked to serious adverse reactions to other substances, including nitrates. She said that’s why the agency is working with the FDA to investigate the issue.
“The FDA is taking these reports very seriously,” Whitehead said. “We are committed to identifying and working through these reports, but we remain committed to reporting these issues to the FDA and our office of enforcement.”
According to the FDA, Viagra is FDA-approved to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which a man has difficulty getting or maintaining an erection for sexual performance. It may also be caused by a chemical reaction in the body called imbalanced testosterone. An imbalance in testosterone levels may cause an erection to last longer or decrease the ability to have sex. While this condition may be treatable, there is no cure for it.
FDA’s report states the company failed to properly report its warning labels to the FDA because it is not aware of the issue and had been involved in the investigation.
The agency also found that the company knew about the issue until after the report was sent to the FDA, but the company has not received any reports of adverse events related to Viagra since that time.
In addition, the FDA said the company did not have a “black box” warning about the safety of Viagra because there is no information about the potential side effects. But its warnings were not issued to consumers.
“We are committed to identifying and working through this information, but we remain committed to reporting these issues to the FDA,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who is also an investigator on the FDA’s review of the issue.
“We continue to work with the FDA to identify and work through this information, but we remain committed to working with them to develop a more complete and comprehensive information about the safety and effectiveness of this medication,” Gottlieb said.
“We continue to work with the FDA to identify and work through this information, but we remain committed to working with the FDA to develop a more complete and comprehensive information about the safety and effectiveness of this medication,” Gottlieb added.
The FDA reported that the company knew about the problem until after the FDA received the reports and was involved in the investigation. The FDA said it received multiple reports of adverse events related to Viagra from consumers. The company did not respond to a request for comment.
A review of the FDA’s drug information shows the information on the drug label and other information on the labels was not provided to the FDA.
The report, which was released by the FDA, is part of a report the FDA issued in July 2015 that states the company did not report its label to the FDA because the FDA was aware of the problem. The report states the company was unaware of the issue until January 2016, when it received a letter from the FDA indicating the company did not know the issue.
In addition, the FDA said the company did not receive a report of adverse events related to the FDA’s drug labels until after the drug was reviewed.
“The FDA has identified this issue and is working with the FDA to identify and investigate the issue,” said the report. “We continue to work with the FDA to identify and work through this information, but we remain committed to working with the FDA to develop a more complete and comprehensive information about the safety and effectiveness of this medication,” the FDA said.
The FDA has also said that the company’s review was conducted in compliance with FDA standards. The company also did not report the results of the review to the FDA.
